The story:
In Kentucky, herds of buffalo carved natural pathways that were followed by America’s first pioneers and explorers. On the spot where their migration route crossed the Kentucky River, we’ve been making legendary bourbon whiskey since 1787, making Buffalo Trace the oldest continuously operating distillery in America. We even received one of only four permits to remain operational during America's Prohibition – for “medicinal” purposes.
In tribute to the mighty buffalo and the rugged, independent spirit of the pioneers who followed them westward, we created Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. To honor that rich history, we continue to craft Buffalo Trace in the same time-honored tradition. Slowly. Carefully. By hand. And we still enjoy making it as much as people enjoy drinking it. Within the past decade, Buffalo Trace has won more awards than any other distillery in the world, including seven “Distillery of the Year” titles. So here’s a toast to the hardworking craftspeople of Buffalo Trace Distillery who make Kentucky shine around the globe.
Buffalo Trace Distillery is a family-owned company based in Franklin County, Kentucky. The distillery's rich tradition dates back to 1787 and has included such legends as E.H. Taylor, Jr., George T. Stagg, Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp and Elmer T. Lee. Rich in history and hospitality, the distillery sits on 130 acres with four centuries of architecture represented on-site.
