Fairfax Variety is one of the last five-and-dime stores in the area. This shop's shelves are filled with a colorful collection of fun hats, tee-shirts and other clothing, games, toys, craft materials, greeting cards, stationery, party supplies, hair brushes, body lotion and more. Most everything in the store is surprisingly inexpensive, with candy starting at just a penny. The friendly proprietor, Polly Knox, is on hand to answer questions and can dish on other local shops worth visiting, such as the popular ice cream parlor Fairfax Scoop, which is right next door.
