Description
"Convoy" comes from a series of abstract oil paintings that focused on the use of a line (red thread) used to gesture or create movement across a field of abstract landscape. In some of the paintings, other elements (squares) are introduced to interact and affect the gesture of the line.
Artist Jim Adams works with a broad range of subjects and mediums. Though he works wherever he has opportunity and time, his studio practice is based in Durham and Hillsborough, NC where he makes drawings, paintings, and sculpture. “When I go into the studio,” Jim says, “it is with the anticipation that something is going to happen… something exciting. Without striving to create a ‘masterpiece’ or even ‘good art’ I allow each piece to emerge from the information I have, trusting in the convergence of time, effort, passion, materials, recognition, and memory to collaborate in a meaningful endeavor.”
Equipped with a vast toolbox developed over a lifetime devoted to learning materials and processes, Jim builds images that explore ideas inspired by science, nature, and people. The things he makes are born of an awareness that everything relates to the things around it and that all things are in the process of becoming something else. The resulting body of work gives a nod to journeys worth taking, lives worth living, and endeavors worth pursing.
Jim's work can be seen at Pleiades Gallery in Durham, North Carolina.
