Let this be the gnomon of your giant sundial dreams- your garden awaits!
Pukao you may ask? These are the carved red volcanic topnots that adorn ancient fertility symbols on Easter Island that have inspired this work. http://www.southamerica.cl/easter-island/puna-pau-pukao.htm
This red 82" tall terra cotta sculpture Pukao is a compelling landmark that will accent your residence, edifice, or business. Providing a strong visual assertion, it is a one of a kind statement in the landscape, showing extremely well from a distance and against stucco walls of various hues. Properly installed, this column is suitable for inhabitation outdoors and requires no further tending. It may also be installed in an interior space.
This column may currently be seen at the Mudwasp Sculpture Site in Cuba, NM. Studio open by appointment.

Sara Lee D Alessandro has sculpted in the medium of clay for over fifty years. Eighteen years as a scenic artist in New York, carving on Broadway sets, feature films and for the Metropolitan Opera House, dampened interest in sculpture of table top scale and generated interest in the dynamic of Tableaux Vivants, (sculpture of a personable scale standing on common ground with the viewer). Clay s plasticity, immediacy and the creation of unique organic form is what keeps her in thrall. Enjoy a further look at www.mudwaspstudio.com
Recent exhibits in Southern NM include: Three large sculptures on the grounds of Bear Mountain Lodge (current); a two person exhibition Surprising Similitude in Mud and Paper last Summer at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, and an exhibition at the Preston Contemporary Art Center in Mesilla, NM. She presented a slide lecture Romancing the Monomorphic Form at the Clay Festival in Silver City in August of last year and will be presenting at the Clay Festival again with a lecture on Mud Like a Blessing this August.
