Our Unique Program:
“What we say, we can write. What we write, we can read. What we read, we can say.” The gentle philosophy of Summer Writing Camp at Chinook Spirit Children’s Academy is that writing is as natural as speaking. Children speak to be heard, and their writing is an extension of their voice. If your child has a desire to write or to learn to write, this is the place to do it! Summer Writing Camp instruction encompasses all levels of writers from emergent level (drawing pictures, beginning letter/word formation) to independent level. Writing time will be multi-sensory (allow writing to come off the page at times), interactive, and allow for all personalities to have their needs as writers met. This includes options for quiet space, background noise space, music, partners, technology and variety of media, etc. Multiple types of writing pieces will be encouraged. During the week, participants will learn about personal needs as writers and create that pure environment to allow the inner writer to blossom. All participants will experience the process of writing, and participants may choose to experience the product of writing as well. Summer Writing Camp is an all-positive, nurturing, inspiring, and most of all FUN experience for K-5 kids!
Instructors include teachers with National Board Certification, as well as certified with the State of New Mexico, and a published author. Additionally, local guest writers/authors are scheduled to visit as role models for young writers during writing instruction time. Teacher student ratio is 6:1.

If a child is dropped off at 9 am and picked up at 4:30 pm three days (doesn’t need before/after care for the remaining two days), that is 2.5 hours x 3 days, 7.5 hours total for the week.
