Description

Photo Book: “Nuevo Mundo, Mundo Antiguo: A photographic Account of Life in the Eastern Cuban Colonies of Corcovado and Nuevo Mundo.” Introduction by Nina Basker, and Translation by Amal Crespo

A beautiful special edition eighty page photographic account of life in the small rural villages of Nuevo Mundo, and Corcovado, in southeasternCuba. These photos were taken over the course of almost fifteen years, by four different photographers. This book portrays a differentCubathan is so often shown in tourist and travel photos from that place: You will not see the typical old American cars, crumbling colonial architecture, or sea wall inHavana. These photos show the Cuban countryside; red dust, brown faces lost in time, scorched by the blazing tropical sun- a hardworking people, farming into their old age… The book shows a rare perspective of the Cuban people, and most importantly, of the Cuban people that are currently involved with Bay Area Cuba Community Alliance and will be directly benefiting from this fundraiser and auction! Please support them by purchasing this amazing limited edition book!

Bio: I grew up in the SF Bay Area surrounded by all manner of creativity. My father was raised inCubaand his stories about the island were a major part of my childhood. I went to live there for a year, in 2007 and since that trip,Cuba in various manifestations has become a major part of my life.  I am currently the Co Director for Bay Area Cuba Community Alliance, and am working towards the realization of various projects, some lifelong, others more immediate, in the rural provinces of Pilon, in southeasternCuba. I am very interested in working with the Cuban youth in this area, especially in projects relating to the arts, as this is my background. I have taught and facilitated art groups and classes for a wide range of ages all over the Bay Area, and find so much inspiration and fulfillment in this work, be it close to home, or over seas.
