Hot Yoga



Hot Yoga is a therapeutically-specific sequence of 26 yoga postures and breathing exercises done in a room heated to 105 degrees. The heat prevents injury by releasing muscles, ligaments and tendons slowly and safely while the natural production of sweat has a detoxifing, revitalizing affect. Red Dragon Yoga offers both 60-minute and the traditional 90-minute hot yoga session at both Mill Valley and San Rafael locations.


This classical hatha yoga system is designed to restore health to every muscle, joint and organ of the body. The ‘asanas’ (postures), breathing and heat work in union to return you to a natural state of physical and mental balance. Fresh, oxygenated blood circulates throughout the body which benefits the heart and other organs. Many postures massage the lymphatic system which promotes the elimination of toxins.

Hot Yoga is appropriate to both beginning and advanced yoga students. The series can easily be modified or paced to fit one’s own level. The genuis of Hot Yoga is that while everyone is practicing the same sequence of postures at different levels, everyone receives the same benefits!


Acclimating to movement in a heated room happens surprisingly quickly; give yourself 2-5 classes to adjust your mind and body to it. You will sweat! Fans of Hot Yoga appreciate the tonic affect of the sweating and the predictable series of postures and breathing they can find in any Hot Yoga class with any teacher.

Our Story



Red Dragon Yoga is a unique yoga studio and lifestyle center dedicated to the complementary practices of Hot Yoga and Power Yoga (a heated style of Vinyasa yoga). Now with two locations in Marin County—our original Mill Valley studio located minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and our second location in downtown San Rafael, Red Dragon Yoga draws aspiring or continuing students from North, Central and West Marin, San Francisco, the East Bay and beyond.


We were the first yoga center in Marin to offer a combined program of both Hot Yoga and Power Yoga classes, varying in length from one hour to 90 minutes in a heated studio. The heat warms tight and tense muscles, coaxing them to safely move into new levels of flexibility. Some of our students find that one style suits them better, though most enjoy the benefits of integrating both yoga styles into their regular practice.


Red Dragon is a diverse yoga community you’ll soon be warmly welcomed into whether you’ve just walked in the door for the first time or have been practicing for decades. New students are often surprised to see that the ‘average’ hot yoga devotee is anything but typical here. Professionals, soccer moms, spunky seniors, mid-life movers and shakers, tattooed college students, recreational athletes and lifelong yogis and yoginis all supportively share studio floor space at one of our 76 weekly classes led by an inspirational team of instructors.
