The winning bidder of this unique experience will tour a lab at the Massachusetts General Hospital, meet Nobel Prize winner Dr. Jack Szostak, and learn how MGH is "Transforming Medicine through Innovation." MGH is the largest hospital-based research program in the nation, with 2900 principal investigators and over $780 million of total research revenue annually. MGH Senior Vice President for Research, Dr. Harry Orf, will host a lunch, give the group an overview of the MGH research enterprise, and lead a lab tour that includes a meeting and photo opportunity with Dr. Szostak. Dr. Szostak shared the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering how chromosomes are protected and conserved without degradation by telomeres, a discovery that has had critical implications for the study of the human aging at the cellular level.
