Description
Acrylic paint is unique because of it’s ability to be enhanced by a large variety of mediums that transform textures and alter hues. The West Wingers incorporate acrylics into their discovery of warm and cool colors. We start by blending warm and cool shades on a sectioned canvas. Noticing the blended colors, the children were inspired to create their own palette of warm and cool colors which later were used to add a new layer. Next we explore textured mediums that include: modeling paste, gel mediums, glass bead paste, sand paste, and fiber paste. The children not only played with the different textures they were also able to alter the thickness and thinness of the paints and by using spatulas, influenced the way paint moves across a surface. While listening to the children describe their connections of warm and cool a collection of their descriptive words were saved. As their final touch these memory words are added to the canvas.
