You are bidding on a 750 ml bottle of Merry Edwards 2010 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Klopp Ranch.

Winemaker's Commentary

My quarter-century partnership with Ted Klopp continues to yield amazing wines. With his daughter Lauren involved in managing the vineyard, the vines are now experiencing a woman’s point of view! In 2009, a block of clone Dijon 777 was converted from standard cane pruning to gyot. This simple change allowed these grapes to be included in the blend for the first time, along with some Dijon 667 and Swan selection fruit. More changes are in the works! This winter, an older section of Pommard was reoriented to a north-south alignment, which will most certainly enhance quality.

The current vintage is classic Klopp through and through. The inviting, intense aroma is loaded with dark brambleberry, rich cherry and black raspberry. This bold fruit is laced with savory, toasty vanilla and star anise along with notes of cola and dark cacao. In the mouth it reveals firm, substantial yet smooth tannins giving the finish an unctuous feel.

"This vineyard has been source to some of the winery’s greatest bottlings. The wine is enormously fruity, with raspberry, cherry and red-plum flavors that flood the palate. But it’s no mere fruit bomb, offering the most wonderful tannin-acid structure and a dryness that keeps the wine stimulating through a long, spicy finish. Drinkable now, but also cellar worthy through 2018, at least."

Pick up/shipping information: At auction close, item will be available for pick up in Sebastopol, CA on the designated pick up days or it can be mailed at the winning bidder’s expense.

For planning, note that the pick up days are Friday, March 28, 2014 and Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Sebastopol, California. All information and details about pick up times and location will be given in the auction closing email.

Wine is shipped via AIM Mail Center. Here are the special notes in regards to shipping wine:

1. Actual shipping charges will be charged and mailing/shipping insurance is extra. Winning bidder is responsible for all fees. Estimated shipping for a single bottle of wine is between $17-33. Alaska is $101 and Hawaii is $54.

2. All wine requires a wine shipper in addition to any shipping and/or insurance charges. The prices for the wine shipper are as follows: a 1 bottle shipper is $4.50, a 2 bottle shipper is $6.75, a 3 bottle shipper is $7.75, a 4 bottle shipper is $9.75, and a 6 bottle shipper is $10.75.

3. Wine is shipped “adult signature required” and the delivery must be signed for, it cannot be left without a signature. There is an additional $4.95 charge for this, and it cannot be waived.

4. Wine can be shipped to the following 30 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. If a state is not listed, state law prohibits wine from being shipped there.
