This award-winning claret celebrates Bordeaux's fortunate location - its vital link to the Atlantic Ocean and to all the smaller wine-producing regions up river. It also pays homage to the many historic gateways around this once-walled town. Les Portes de Bordeaux is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from prime vineyards of the Entre-Deux-Mers. For a relatively 'humble' Bordeaux AOC, it has everything - ripe berry flavours, supple tannins and harmonious, liquorice complexity. And that's thanks in no small part to a magnificent vintage. 2010 is being hailed as even closer to perfection than 2009. While delicious now, there is no rush to drink it. Serve with robust foods such as roast red meats, game and hard cheeses.
