Description

Ever wondered why Syria doesnt lead the network broadcasts every night? What is the impact of the press ban on filming the coffins of fallen US military personnel from Iraq? How does the network decide to greenlight a documentary? This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for two aspiring Nueva teens (or a parent and child) to meet some of the giants of broadcast news and the countrys leading journalists and decision-makers who produce the news. The winner(s) are guaranteed deep, informed, one-on-one discussions with the individuals who produce and report national news.

START THE DAY WITH:

*An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of one of the network morning shows: GMA, Today, or CBS This Morning.

*Breakfast with Rick Kaplan, the man who created Nightline and ran World News Tonight with both Peter Jennings and Diane Sawyer. Talk about his 44 National Emmys or his time as president of CNN. Kaplan now serves as a consultant for Aaron Sorkins The Newsroom.

*Or get a peek at the inner sanctum of Today Shows book guru Jackie Levins office and get the inside scoop on how she chooses books and authors for the show.

IN THE AFTERNOON:

*Students interested in live broadcast can meet at 30 Rock with NBC News Sr. VP Mark Lukasciewicz who runs all special events from to war coverage to elections to the Obama White House tour to the Olympics.

*Does your teen aspire to be an investigative reporter? Then lunch at CBS News commissary with legendary 60 Minutes producer Ira Rosen is a must.

*If being on camera is your cup of tea, then how about a quick hello with morning show talent (Natalie, Hoda) and then a manicure with Nightline anchor Juju Chang?

*Or how about a studio tour of ABC News and Diane Sawyers anchor desk? Its just a short walk to the office of the president of ABC News. You can ask Ben Sherwood about the challenges of covering a breaking story like Ukraineor the hazards of playing his favorite Nueva student (Cooper) in chess.

BY EVENING:

*Its time to sit in the control room of World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer and watch legendary ABC News Director Tony Barrettor NBC Director Brett Holey. While youre there ask Brian Williams Senior Producer Catherine Kim about what it was like trying to produce the NBC Nightly News in Sochi.

*Do you have a documentary idea? At MSNBC, your teen can pitch the Senior VP of Documentaries, Michael Rubin, a documentary proposal and get his unvarnished feedback on the concept.

*For lighter fare theres a drink with ABC News John Quinones, host of What Would You Do. Or have tea with the two DAVIDSDavid Segal, the haggler of The New York Times, and ABC News David Wright, a veteran war correspondent. Or head over to Bloomberg media and get a tour of the Charlie Rose show or MSNBCs new show with Ronan Farrow.

Your guide for this priceless tour will be Nueva mom and journalist Grace Kahng. She will customize this whirlwind one day tour to the winners interests as well as offer the winning teen an opportunity to come on an NBC News shoot for her human trafficking documentary series Sex Slaves in America. This package also includes dinner for four at Per Se, a two night stay at The New York Palace, and $2,000 for airfare. This must be arranged on a mutually agreed upon-date at least two months in advance.
