Description
One bottle of Chartreuse V.E.P. Product of France
V.E.P. stands for Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolongé, or in English “aged for an exceptionally long time”. Chartreuse V.E.P. is respectively identical to both Chartreuse Jaune and Chartreuse Verte in its composition and production, but it is then aged for not only 2 to 3 but rather for at least 10 years in the oak casks of the Carthusian liquor cellar in Voiron. The liquor develops a significant finesse and lightness during this aging process – a real pleasure that is unfortunately only available for limited release each year.
The occasion for the production of this edition was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd in England in 1953. At this time, the monks chose to reflect their positive experience in aging their liquor for an especially long time by initiating a series of products of aged liquors. The first Chartreuse V.E.P. Was sold in 1963, and continues to be sold in numbered replications of the bottles that were used for Chartreuse in 1840, including a wax sealed cork and special wooden box in which they are shipped.
