Description

Handmade Ceramic Bowl 1

Mrs. Thornton 3/4

Dimensions: 16 1/2" diameter, 6" high

Each student in Mrs. Thornton's class outlined their hand on a slab of clay and decorated it using simple clay tools and the imprints of vintage jewelry. The hand shapes were then placed on a bowl shaped form and 'knitted' together, making the bowl both functional and structurally sound.

After the initial firing, black glaze was applied, emphasizing the unique qualities of each hand. Colored glaze was applied to some of the design elements, creating a mostly black and white bowl with hints of bright color.

Because of the class size, 2 bowls were made. These are the 16 students who's hands went into the creation of this bowl.
