Description

Extraordinary Extremities was inspired by a NPR story on Hugh Herr, whose legs were amputated after a climbing accident and who now designs technologically advanced artificial limbs.  Hugh himself has over twenty different pairs of feet and feels fortunate that he can always look forward to having better and better feet. In Extraordinary Extremities, the puppet-maker Geppetto has recently lost his wife, the other half of the Mythic Puppet Theater that presents classic Greek myths. The play centers around Geppetto performing, solo for the first time, the grand love story of Perseus, who slays a sea monster to save his beloved Andromeda.  As things being to go awry, he must devise new scripts, new endings, and even new limbs.  "Extraordinary Extremities" is a tale of resilience, adaptation and ingenuity.

This production was originally created with support from The Jim Henson Foundation, St. Ann’s Warehouse – Puppet Lab, and public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and Hudson Opera House.
