Description
Pete Sampras is one of the most decorated alumni of Palos Verdes High School. Along with being one of the greatest tennis players of all-time! This Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 Original midsize 85 racquet was used by Pete during match competition. The racquet exhibits great use and has four broken strings. The racquet came directly from the Sampras home in Palos Verdes. Pete's sister, Stella Sampras Webster, the Head Women's Tennis Coach at U.C.L.A. and herself a former Sea King, personally donated the racquet and has written a letter of provenance.
The racquet itself is a very rare "St. Vincent" model as it was manufactured in the small Carribean island of St. Vincent in the Grenadines. Until its closure in 1991, Pete was specific in only using racquets made from this one Wilson factory adding to its authenticity. When asked specifically about the racquet Coach Sampras noted that Pete had kept it for years and it obviously had special significance for him. Pete used this exact style racquet to win his first Grand Slam title, the United States Open in 1990.
The racquet comes in its original wood shadow box frame direct from the Sampras household in Palos Verdes.
This is an extraordinary piece of sports history from a Palos Verdes Sea King legend!
