Description

James Swann was born in 1905(-1985) in Merkel, Texas and studied at the Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine, Texas.
From 1931-1960s he produced more than 250 graphic works, and was considered one of the Midwest's most respected printmakers. He favored urban and rural scenes that were free from any sense of nostalgia and served as a record of his present observations. An accomplished photographer, his graphic work, like a photograph, captures a moment in time.
His work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute, Art Institute of Chicago, Metropolitan Museum of Art and New York Public Library, among others.

This piece is an etching and was signed in plate "James Swann". It is untitled and depicts Lincoln Park, Chicago in the early 20th century. The image measures 9 7/8" X 7 ¼" and is printed on 14 ½" X 11 ¼" paper with the watermark "BFK".
