Description

An extraordinary link to the past, Kukaoo Heiau, preserved and shared by the Manoa Heritage Center, is the last intact walled Hawaiian temple in the greater ahupuaa, or land area, that stretches from the verdant cliffs of MaA?noa's waterfall-laced mountains to the shores of Waikiki. This amazing tour, for up to 8 people, is about the historical significance and culture of this heiau and the Manoa Valley. Surrounding the heiau is an exceptional Native Hawaiian garden, showcasing a stunning collection of plants endemic to Hawaii as well as those introduced by early Polynesian settlers. Food plants such as sweet potato, taro and sugarcane are found growing in the agricultural garden. Native plants, including many rare and endangered species, often with traditional medicinal or other beneficial properties, are being carefully cultivated and preserved there. Also included in this tour is the book "Life in the Pacific of the 1700's".

Manoa Heritage Center was founded in 1996 as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to preserve, interpret and share this historic property, and to promote thoughtful stewardship of the natural and cultural heritage of Hawaii.
