Description

This is a simple and rustic watercolor of the native species ‘ie’ie vine (Freycinetia arborea) by Francis Davis. Francis Davis is the brother of Charles K.L. Davis, the famous opera singer, grandson of Charles Augustus Brown, who was instrumental in the organizing of large business and plantation interests at the turn of the century in Hawaii. This watercolor will be the perfect historical conversation piece in your home.

This artwork is from the art collection of Mona Hind Holmes, daughter of Robert Hind, Territory of Hawaii senator and past owner of Puuwaawaa Ranch on Hawaii Island. She was a descendant of King Kamehameha I through his daughter Kipikane, who married Parker Ranch founder John Palmer Parker. In 1930, Mona was the subject of the book, "Lava", by Armine von Tempsky.

There is wrinkling of the paper in the lower left hand corner. It measures 24" x 18".
