Description

2011 Cinsault, la grande plage diurne (San Lucas AVA) – Attractive aromas of wildflower petals with abundant fruit, strawberries, ripe cherries and cigar box. Naturally low in tannins, this light-bodied red wine should be served well chilled (55°F) as a perfect aperitif. Cinsault is a Mediterranean grape variety widely planted in the south of France along the Rhone River and perfectly suited to California’s Central Coast viticultural region. Suggested pairing with BB-Q, grilled vegetables and chicken or pork kebabs, charcuterie, paella, ratatouille and a salade Nicoise. Produced entirely in stainless steel to accent the light, fresh flavors. The name refers to the characteristic daily occurrence of large diurnal ranges from low to high temperatures in the rugged San Lucas sub-AVA of Southern Monterey County where the temps can easily swing 50°F daily. The San Lucas Vineyard sits on a gently sloped and well-drained mesa adjacent to the Salinas River where the loamy soil allows deep root penetration of 60” or more. Warm days are followed by cooling late afternoon winds. Hands on farming incorporates low shoot and cluster densities. A divided canopy trellis exposes fruit to filtered sunlight to optimize the canopy-to-fruit ratio. The Cinsault block is small, under 1.5 acres.

89 cases produced, harvested September 18th 2011 and bottled in December 2012.
