Description
2011 Grenache blanc, la grande plage diurne (San Lucas AVA) – An alluring combination of rich flavors and refreshingly crisp acidity in the mouth with varietal aromas of green apple and preserved lemon. This wine was produced entirely in stainless steel to preserve the inherent fresh fruit qualities. The name refers to the characteristic daily occurrence of large diurnal ranges from low to high temperatures in the rugged San Lucas sub-AVA of Southern Monterey County where the temps can easily swing 50°F daily. The San Lucas Vineyard sits on a gently sloped and well-drained mesa adjacent to the Salinas River where the loamy soil allows deep root penetration of 60” or more. Warm days are followed by cooling late afternoon winds. Hands on farming incorporates low shoot and cluster densities. A divided canopy trellis exposes fruit to filtered sunlight to optimize the canopy-to-fruit ratio. The Grenache blanc block is small, under 1.5 acres. Suggested pairings for this delicious wine include: steamed cockles, a risotto of crevices or scallops, trout meuniere, pumpkin veloute, and a salade Nicoise.
166 cases produced, harvested September 18th 2011 and bottled in December 2012.
