The MNS Reverse Auction, where everyone can contribute some amount towards a major capital improvement or program, has a long history of helping PS290 maintain its excellence and provide our children with a rich educational experience.

 

Out past efforts have funded the physical well-being of MNS: smart boards in every classroom, our stellar play yard, and a state-of-the-art audio-visual system for our auditorium. This year, we turn our attention to the physical well-being of our children.

 

This year's Reverse Auction will fund the introduction of recess programs from Simply Sports, a nonprofit group that organizes games and sports for elementary-school students. Their focus meshes nicely with the culture at MNS: they value learning new skills, discovering abilities and developing self-confidence. Most importantly, Simply Sports coaches emphasize participation, effort, fun and good sportsmanship over winning.

 

Simply Sports coaches will lead our students in all three outdoor play areas -- the yards and the street -- in games and exercise that will be fun and contribute to their physical and mental well-being.  Even during days when there is inclement weather and our children are unable to go outside, the coaches will effectively lead indoor recess.  Simply Sports coaches know how to get kids moving in small spaces and have over 20 games designed specifically for indoor fun.  Regardless of whether they are indoors or outside with our students, Simply Sports will work with Sharon, Michael and the staff at MNS to design a custom program for our school that makes the best use of our space and that our children will love.
