Description

"Pond near the moors" by Joan Cobb Marsh, 18x18 oil painting.  This beautiful oil painting was purchased from the Ellen Harris Gallery in the 1990's for $1800.

Joan is a professional oil painter who lives in the artist community of Provincetown on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She has been an artist since winning a scholarship for portraiture during her high school years, and studied at Castle Hill School for the Arts and The Cape Cod School of Art with Henry Henche, who in turn was a student of Hawthorne.

After attaining a BA in fine and applied arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology, she began a career as a graphic suvervisor and adjunct professor. She has also taught and developed courses in advanced drawing, collage, and oil painting.

A strong believer that the work should speak for itself, Joan Cobb Marsh realizes that painting is also memory reconnected, a revisiting of emotional content:

"There is no logical explanation of visual data. A person stops, looks... all is on the canvas and the viewer is now in the arena of new experiences. A painter's mandate is a good-faith attempt to capture the fleeting visual beauty of our relationships with worldly stimuli. In a glimpse resides an eternity."
