Description

"Fearless peacefulness" was the quality that attracted Liza Matthews, Shambhala Sun art director, to this image. She'd seen and had it in mind to use as a magazine cover for many years. When the issue entitled "Smile at Fear" came along she finally had the perfect opportunity to use it.

This head of a colossal Buddha statue is most likely from 14th-century Cambodia, perhaps in the Bayon style. Carved from sandstone it stands 20 inches high. This ¾-view photograph is by Michel Urtado, a French photographer with expertise in capturing rare museum pieces and panoramas. See www.urtado.com.
