Pete Fountain is known for his vibrant clarinet and his perennial appearances at Jazz Fest as well as Mardi Gras group, the "Half Fast Marching Club." This cachet features teal foil print with geometric luminance and a wonderful pin and ink collage of Fountain by Dick Bobnick. The postmark features hand on a clarinet. Total production of this cache was 2,500.

The U.S. Post Office issues specialized commemoratives for important cultural contributions that are that are uniquely American.  In 1989, the U.S. Post Office issued its first New Orleans Jazz Fest & Heritage Festival commemorative "cachet" featuring Professor Longhair, one of New Orleans formative characters known for his piano stylings throughout the world.  Every year since, a new cachet has been produced, each featuring a New Orleans original.
