About the Artist from http://www.capturedlight.com/about:
Bob Compton got a late start in photography, purchasing his first SLR camera in 1991 at the age of 38.
Since then, he has followed his camera all over the United States, and to Canada, Mexico, and Costa Rica. In February of 1996, he moved to New Orleans and began a love affair with the city that yielded his most prolific period. He evacuated 12 hours before Katrina with some 30,000 negatives that documented that city's magical musical, cultural and architectural wonders, and ended up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he resides today.
Compton's uncanny knack for what he calls "you are there" photography brings viewers of his work into intimate contact with the subject. He spent a great part of his time in New Orleans as a street photographer, immersing himself in the culture of the neighborhoods, letting others spend time and burn film in the all too familiar tourist sections of the city.
He was accepted by the musicians of the city and the nearly unprecedented access they allowed him generated photographs that capture the essence of their performances and personalities.
Since 2002, Compton has traveled to music festivals and events all over the country, and continues to do so to this day.
His work has shown in New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Telluride and Santa Fe.
