About the artist:
Artist and filmmaker Celia L. Mercer works primarily with encaustic paint & collage, creating complex images through layering of paint and found materials. Encaustic (“to burn”), one of the most ancient of art forms, is a hot-wax technique in which pigmented beeswax is melted, hardened, and fused - layer upon layer, until the desired effect is attained. The layered effects achieved with encaustic underscores the feeling of mystery and depth in some works; encases and memorializes in others. Whether in animated film, or in painting, Mercer challenges the viewer to see the familiar in new or unexpected ways. When she’s not painting, Mercer is a professor at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, and head of the UCLA Animation Workshop.

A shipping charge of $30 will be added to the winning bid for this item, and the item will be shipped by Fedex once the auction is closed and payment has been processed
