Description

This beautiful 8 1/4 inch plate displays the aster, the favorite flower of First Lady Dolley Madison. The plate features a nosegay of asters. The lip of the plate is a delicate cream edged in golden details.

Dolley Madison entertained with elegance and grace, overcoming difficulties with her unpretentious charm. She was a visible figure during her husband’s term in office earning her the nickname, “Lady Presidentess”. Every Wednesday, she held receptions for anyone who wanted to come. She was also the first First Lady to serve ice cream as a dessert to her guests.

This plate is a part of the Woodmere china "Flowers of The First Ladies" Collection. Using each First Lady's favorite flower, the collection has grown from a simple dessert service to now being a collection for the entire table. This particular piece is considered a dessert plate.

The back of the plate features the National First Ladies' Library crest, the Woodmere China crest, and replicas of the signatures of First Ladies Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barbara Bush, Rosalynn Carter, Betty B. Ford, Lady Bird Johnson, and Nancy Reagan circling the lip.
