Review:
Mr Ells is a Christian man, and therefore his books are
written from an unabashedly Christian perspective. That said, he seems to have a deep understanding of the problem with co-dependence. This book gently leads the reader to insight and recovery. If I had any qualms, it would be this: he's so
gentle, that I think if I had read this book in my 20's I might have missed the point. Read it carefully. It is a fine line to be sure, between being that supportive helpmeet the bible talks about, and being a dysfunctional co-dependent - but there IS a line, and you CAN define it, and I do pray you get well.
The best insight I got from this book: Do not give love in order to
get it. You may feel you are being "pure" but if you're honest with yourself, you can feel the difference. Whenever you give in order to get, it's a contract with expectations - and it's dicey.
