Coastwalk is a California–wide non–profit organization that advocates for coastal protection and access via the California Coastal Trail and also offers fun and educational walking tours.

The Mendocino Classic Coastwalk is Thursday July 10th to Monday the 14th.  From MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg, you’ll walk north on the California Coastal Trail (CCT) exploring sandy beaches and coastal bluffs. Then, return to your campsite for a welcoming beach party.

The following day, you’ll venture south on the CCT, visiting Laguna Point, to Glass Beach. After this section you’ll cross the Noyo River, to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens.

On Saturday, you’ll hike to Jug Handle State Preserve for a walk lead by Bob Lorentzen author of “Hiking the California Coastal Trail”. He will lead you through Caspar to Point Cabrillo Lighthouse where you’ll have a talk lead by Lighthouse docents.

Sunday brings the rugged cliffs of Russian Gulch, to Mendocino Headlands and the Village of Mendocino. After lunch, you’ll hike to Van Damme State Park over the Big River Bridge for a taste of Highway walking. You’ll go inland through a Bishop Pine forest, then down a beautiful gulch to Van Damme Beach. That night you’ll make camp in a meadow at Van Damme State Park.

After a morning walk on Sunday, a shuttle brings you back to Fort Bragg.

There are no fitness requirements for this trip. You’ll hike six to nine miles per day on dirt trails, bluff and sand. Camping and parking fees, guided hiking, dinners, light breakfast fixings, shuttle transportation, gear haul and evening programs are all included.
