Two years ago, David Morris International partnered with A-ROSA Cruises, raising the bar on European river cruising, to offer a more inclusive product to the North American market.

A-ROSA offers travelers an informed, intimate experience of Europe’s most beautiful riverside cities, villages and landscapes. The sleek, streamlined ships have been designed not only to elegantly ply some of the world’s most historic and storied rivers, but to offer guests a true sense of comfort and a feeling of home. The cruises offer a host of included shore excursions to explore castles, country sides, vineyards and museums as well as exciting, dynamic and diverse cities. Itineraries are created specifically for active travelers seeking cultural adventures, who wish to delve more deeply into passions like food, wine, art, music, and history.

You can select from thirty sailings in 2015 on the Rhone/Saone Rivers in France, departing from Lyon on the A-Rosa Stella that carries a maximum of 174 guests.

Departing from Lyon, you’ll arrive in Macon in the early morning. Perhaps you decide on the excursion to Cluny Cloister, one of the most significant abbeys of the Middle Ages. Or, you can choose to visit Hameau en Beaujolais, a delightful wine growing region, typical of the French countryside.

That evening you’ll depart for Chalon-Sur-Saone to see the beautiful area of Beaune. Some of the world’s best wines originate from this region of Burgundy, particularly the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. On your way to Beaune, you will pass some of the most famous wine cities of the Côte d’Or, such as Pommard and Meursault, Chassagne and Puligny.

You’ll return to Lyon to tour this beautiful port of embarkation, before venturing to Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  Lyon is the home to the world famous three Michelin star Restaurants of Paul Bocuse and an optional excursion to experience his cuisine at lunch.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is firmly entwined with wines & papal history. In the village of Chateauneuf du Pape you can visit the small museum of PERE ANSELM and taste some of the best wines in the world. Or, you may choose to take a city walking tour and visit the Popes Palace followed by a walk to Rocher des Domes to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Rhône Valley and the famous Pont d’Avignon.

Then it is on to Avignon and famous Pont du Gard and Uzes. The PONT DU GARD site is a water crossroads where the aqueduct snakes through the dense green countryside. Uzès, the City of Art, is where you’ll discover small, narrow streets and town squares against the very medieval character of the towers. Or, you can enjoy a city walking tour of Arles and discover the Roman Coliseum, now used for bullfights, see the ruins of an ancient theater, stopping at Republic Square to admire the Church Ste Trophime, the 17th century Town Hall, and the Roman Obelisk.

You’ll spend the following day in Arles, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 187 of his works.

The following day you’ll arrive in La Voulte, a beautiful French village and if you choose, an excursion to Southern Ardèche. Over the course of millions of centuries, the typical limestone of the Ardèche has formed one of the most beautiful landscapes in Southern France. Along the river you will drive to one of the numerous grottos of the area, such as the Grottes des Madeleines, which consists of more than 25 subterranean halls, or the Grotte Chauvet, which houses the oldest cave paintings in the world. Continuing your trip to one of the lavender producers in the Ardèche-area, you will be shown the different types and species of lavender, as well as their usage in medicine, decoration and perfume production. You will then cruise back to Lyon.
