World premiere of new oratorio composed and conducted by Taconic Opera Artistic Director, Dan Montez, featuring professional soloists, chorus and professional orchestra in a concert performance. Based on the Bible?s Book of Daniel, including the highly known story of Daniel in the den of lions. The symbolism of the stories of Daniel have relevance in today?s world. Montez?s composing style has been compared to that of Fauré, Poulenc, Debussy and Ravel. He describes his music as follows: ?I want my music to be beautiful, and I want it to be spiritual. Too much liturgical music over the past few hundred years seems to be concert music that draws attention to itself. I want my audience to have a peaceful, inspiring experience that is not about me or the music, but rather about something greater.?
Currently in its 17th season, Taconic Opera is Westchester County?s only opera company offering a full season of opera events along with community education programs, was the winner of ArtsWestchester?s 2012 Westchester Arts Organization of the Year Award, and is one of only a handful of small companies that have received a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts grant for Artistic Excellence.
