Description
Enjoy a gourmet meal made courtesy of local chef Steve Monteith and hosted by Hawk Mountain's Director of Land and Facilities Todd Bauman on the covered porch of historic Schaumbach's Tavern. Your dinner will overlook the pond, nearby orchard and yard, a noted birding hotspot on Hawk Mountain.
Famous as the original home of Maurice and Irma Broun, the building dates even further and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was first listed on 1793 tax maps, and in 1876, a map of Albany Township indicated the building as the residence of Matthias Schaumbacher, and “Schaumbach’s Tavern” it has been ever since. Schaumbach’s is steeped in local folklore, which holds that Matthias killed 11 men (with purported motive of robbery), although he never was formally accused or prosecuted for a crime.
Maurice and Irma Broun moved into the cottage on August 30, 1938, and the house served as their residence and also as the first headquarters of the fledgling Sanctuary. Maurice used Schaumboch's back porch as part of the "school in the clouds," platform, addressing thousands of school children from the very location from which you will dine.
Winning bidder and guests will be the FINAL guests to enjoy this experience at Schaumbach's with Todd and Chef Monteith. You won't want to miss this chance to take part in this unique and entertaining experience.
