Born in New Jersey, Derek Jeter is an American baseball shortstop with the New York Yankees. A five-time World Series Champion, Jeter has played 18 seasons with the Yankees and regarded as their central figure during their success in the 1990s and 2000s due to his hitting ability, baserunning, and leadership.

Drafted by this popular NY team out of high school, Jeter is the Yankees all-time career leader in hits (3,304), games played (2,585), stolen bases (348), and at bats (10,551). His accolades includes: thirteen All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, and a Roberto Clemente Award. Jeter is the all-time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop, and the 28th player to reach 3,000 hits.  He is set to retire at the end of the 2014 season.
