Description

This vase is approximately 13 inches high and 10 inches wide.

Mark Goertzen is a local Goshen artist specializing in functional ceramics and one-of-a-kind wood fired pottery.

This piece was fired to 2400 degress Fahrenheit using only wood. With the help of friends and fellow potters, Mark Goertzen stoked the kiln around the clock every 12 to 15 minutes for approximately 60 hours. The effects on the surface of the pot are created by the kiln's flames, which travel around the pieces like water, and by wood ash that collects on the surface of the pot, melts, then hardens to form a glaze. Enjoy the organic beauty of this vessel.

You can see more of his work at the Michiana Pottery Tour Sept. 27 & 28.
