Artist statement: "I've enjoyed photography for many years, especially taking close-ups of nature and especially flowers.  I believe this photo was taken at a nature weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The guide hestiated in showing it to us because sometimes people dig up wild flowers and transplant them back home.  It is illegal to dig up plants in that park and the plants seldom live after being transplanted.  Lady Slippers are not a common wild flower, so I was especially delighted to see one that was so perfect and to have the chance to photograph it."
