Description

The chain is approximately 8 inches from clasp to pendant.

Artist's statement: "The pendant on this necklace was created using the ancient technique of enameling which is the process of using heat to fuse glass onto metal.   As a jeweler I was originally drawn to enamel because it offers me a huge pallet of colors to add to my jewelry. There is a long history of enamel works being made for the church, everything from reliquaries to jewelry.   You’ll notice that the enamel used in this piece is transparent, which allows light to pass through it to the copper surface below and then bounce back, lighting the enamel from within. The stone beads are green adventurine and the metal used throughout is copper.

I am a studio artist and professor.  I currently teach in the Art department at Goshen College.  My primary medium is jewelry but I like to branch out into other areas like textiles and book making.  I love to travel and am influenced by the world around me as well as the materials I work with.  I grew up attending Mennonite Relief Sales in Ohio and Indiana with my parents who worked for MCC and I appreciate the chance I have now to support MCC through this auction."
