Description

Making Our Community Great!

After the auction opened we received a call from a wonderful gentleman who served our country in WWII. He wanted to "pay it forward". Previously Rebublic Bank had sponsored him for his Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and now he wanted to do something as well.

He went on to tell us about his art work and a bit about his family and his wife's family and how this picture came about...

"A few years ago my wife and I visited her uncle, Arthur Winchester, in Easley, South Carolina. While there, he told us why there were so many Winchesters living in the area.  As I recall it, this is what he told me:

He said that many years ago, four Winchester brothers came to this part of South Carolina from England, as a reward for something they had done. They took these four brothers up to the top of this certain mountain, and with a wave of the hand, gave each brother all the land as far as he could see - one to the east, one to the west, one south and one to the north!

Her Uncle Arthur later drove us to this spot, and I remember standing on top of this mountain.  This picture I have painted expresses how I felt, and how I remember it.

Although I don't remember what kind of church it was, or what the place was called, I have named my painting, "The Church at Winchester Point".  I dedicate this picture to my beloved mother-in-law, Sudie Winchester Dunn."
