"Squash blossom" is a term which has long been applied to a unique necklace produced by Southwestern Indians. It was first made by the Navajo and later by the Zuni and Hopi Indians.

The inverted crescent pendant on squash-blossom necklaces, called the 'Naja' by the Navajo, is found in various design forms throughout world cultures.  As a crescent, this form goes back to Paleolithic period and has gone through an evolution of form over thousands of years through many multicultural interactions and interpretations.

The Naja is made of sandcast sterling silver and embellished with turquoise and coral. The rest of the necklace is made of silver round  beads and handcrafted squash blossoms-- based on the shape of pomegranate blossoms.
The total  length is 26"--it hangs 15" long including the naja and is strung in foxtail chain. Measures 34" from clasp to bottom of blossom drop. excellent condition.
