When Muhammad Yunus lent $27 to 42 women in rural Bangladesh, he sparked what became the microcredit movement that has empowered millions of poor women in nearly 100 countries. Yunus is one of only seven people in the world to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the US Congressional Gold Medal. Katharine shares her personal impressions of Muhammad Yunus and tells about her experiences in Bangladesh.

Katharine Esty is a social psychologist and organizational consultant who first met Yunus when she was consulting to Yunus in Bangladesh in the 1990s. She interviewed him a number of times for this book. Her areas of expertise are women’s empowerment and managing change.
