Description
Guillermo Cuellar is a potter working in the mingei, or people's art, tradition of ceramics first popularized by Bernard Leach in England and Hamada Shoji in Japan. The pottery philosophy and aesthetic of simple, handmade ware for everyday use had a significant influence on American studio pottery. Born in Venezuela, Cuellar studied and was mentored by the seminal Minnesotan potter Warren MacKenzie, himself a former apprentice of Bernard Leach.
