Wild Blue Fig strives to connect artisans to the broader market through increased distribution channels, including an online marketplace geared towards small-scale artisans, and technology training.

Artisans in developing countries are faced with limited access to markets. Transportation and logistics constraints make it difficult to reach beyond their local communities while limited resources make it difficult to meet the large orders that many retailers require.

Currently, the online store is created and run from Iowa. As artisan and community training develops, the online store content will increasingly come from the artisans’ communities and eventually a true artisan-to-consumer marketplace will develop. The hosting fee structure encourages the artisans to participate in training and develop the skills needed to take on that aspect of their business.
