This gorgeous oil painting was created by Brian Heffner, a participant at the Progressive Art Program at the Mens Correctional Facility in Lancaster, CA, where the Karma PAWS for Life program is ongoing.    

PAWS for Life is a progressive program that connects the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation with Karma Rescue. This historic collaboration pairs inmates with rescued shelter dogs for a 12-week training cycle. 

In the days since we first brought the five "pilot" dogs to the prison on June 1st, we've watched the inmates and their dogs learn, grow, and flourish together.

Brian Heffner's painting "Bird of Paradise" won a blue ribbon at the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival and was generously donated to support Karma Rescue!
