David Neligan has been dealing in fine antiques, art and distinctive furnishings for almost 35 years. Mr. Neligan is an experienced general appraiser with an encyclopedic knowledge of antiques, fine arts and furnishings in addition to being a licensed and bonded auctioneer. David started his career in New York City where he held various positions at John Fleming Inc. (Rare Books), Provence Antiques and then just over five years at Christie's where he occupied various positions in the European Furniture Department. There, he developed his expertise in and a discerning eye for original 17th and 18th century pieces. In 1986, Skinner Inc. Auctioneers and Appraisers recruited David where he held the position of Director of English and Continental Furniture and started the Oriental Works of Art and Fine Silver Departments.
In 1992, David opened his fine antiques dealership and appraisal business in Essex, Massachusetts. David has attracted a long and impressive roster of clients, dealers, collectors, designers and museums that return to him year after year because of his high quality merchandise, his integrity and advice. Mr. Neligan has been called upon to appraise some of the most valuable collections in the world including the personal collection of Henry DuPont at Winterthur and the entire collection of antique furniture at Harvard University. David also serves as a consultant for Florian Papp Antiques in New York City and regularly provides expert advice on period pieces for theater and film productions.
