Description

Point Reyes National Seashore Association is happy to partner with Point Reyes Compost, Petaluma Seed Bank and Marin Ace Hardware for a special auction package geared for the Bay Area home gardener* who would like to create or transform their outdoor space into a native garden, vegetable patch or special oasis.

As development replaces natural habitats, planting native gardens can provide a critical bridge to nearby remaining wild lands and provide a buffer for wildlife. By growing native you support the local ecology by using less water, little to no fertilizer, little to no pesticides, less pruning and less of your time--all while enjoying the supreme beauty of a garden in its most "natural" state.

Like any well maintained garden, starting with the right soil is imperative. That’s why this package provides the winning bidder with one bag each of Point Reyes Compost’s OMRI Listed Bob's Best, OMRI Listed Double Doody, Poulet Poo, Mary Jane's Blend, and Point Reyes Greenhouse Blend. This West Marin-made compost is full of microbial life that will nourish your garden patch and can help build your soil structure, increase and improve soil nutrient retention and water holding capacity, help to sequester carbon production, reduce the need for fertilizers, and lower greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants. You will also receive product info on each of the compost types, a bar of their gardener's whey soap, a t-shirt and a hoodie. Plus, compost experts Teddy and Rhonda are happy to answer any questions about your garden needs.

To make sure you have the right tools you need for your gardening project, our friends at Marin Ace Hardware will offer the winning bidder with a $50 gift certificate to source tools, plants or other garden supplies. Marin Ace, your one-stop variety and hardware store since 1939, is owned by Greenbrae residents and Point Reyes fans Jeff and Michelle Leopold. They are the Mom and Pop behind these two old-fashioned hardware and houseware stores with every tool, toy, and tip you could possibly need to help your dream of a native garden become a reality. This gift certificate can be used at either the Marin Ace in San Rafael or the Ace located in San Francisco's Laurel Village Shopping Center.

Our friends at Petaluma Seed Bank will also provide the winning bidder with a must-have copy of Golden Gate Gardening, a local reference to planting in the Bay Area, as well as a Northern Seed Can containing 60 varieties of non-GMO seeds, a gardening hand tool and other helpful trinkets to help get your garden sprouting. Petaluma Seed Bank is home to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company's West Coast location, offering over 1,200 varieties of non-GMO heirloom seeds, tools, books, and hundreds of local hand-made gifts and food items in Petaluma, California. With two stories of retail space, they offer classes and more to enhance any gardener’s knowledge and skills.

Put down some roots! Grow your native garden and experience nature as it was intended to be; bid today!
