The Call of the Wild with Author Bernie Krause, Mesa Refuge & Point Reyes Books for 12

Item Number: 104
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
Point Reyes National Seashore Association is thrilled to partner with Bernie Krause, founder of Wild Sanctuary and author of The Great Animal Orchestra and Mesa Refuge, a beautiful writers' retreat in Point Reyes Station, for an exclusive package for up to twelve special guests.
Krause is an American musician, author, soundscape recordist, bio-acoustician and a pioneer of soundscape ecology. His contributions to the field are numerous; with habitats and species vanishing at an alarming rate, the sound legacy he has created is a gift to future generations. Two of Krause's biggest contributions lie in the Wild Sanctuary Audio Archive project representing 4,500+ hours of wild soundscapes from across the globe and identification of over 15,000 life forms. His latest book, The Great Animal Orchestra, a compilation of his life work in the field and production lab, is a truly groundbreaking and carefully-observed adventure through wild soundscapes, ecology, and music.
Krause has traveled for over 45 years recording (from the wind in the trees, the chirping of birds, the song of the whales, to the most subtle sounds of insect larvae), cataloguing, and archiving the voice of the natural world. His recordings are not merely travelogues or relaxation tools -- they are critical barometers of global environmental health and help inform and enrich our specialized efforts from the field to science to public performance.
The highest bidder of this package will invite up to eleven guests to join them for an exclusive outing with Krause in the field, followed by a gathering at Mesa Refuge overlooking the Giacomini Wetlands. You and your guests will explore soundscapes on a guided walk in the wetlands during the peak spring or fall bird migration. You will follow up your field exploration with light refreshments, wine and relaxing conversation at Mesa Refuge to discuss Krause’s experiences and contributions to soundscape ecology, and sample some of his new book and accompanying recordings. Each guest or couple will receive a signed copy of his book courtesy of our friends at Point Reyes Books, so you can continue your journey and enjoy a unique reading and listening experience in the comfort of your own home.
Don’t miss the call of the wild, or your chance to charm your next social or book club with this exclusive offer. Bid today!
