Description
Point Reyes National Seashore Association is proud to partner with our park concessionaire, the Point Reyes Hostel, and our friends at Point Reyes Outdoors for a special overnight adventure for up to four guests.
Your party of four will stay at the hostel’s new green facility, in one of the private family rooms. Built using recycled material, solar panels, low-irrigation native plants, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, the new facility is the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified hostel building in the U.S. and in a national park! Built to adhere to LEED Silver standards, each room has one Houston bed (double bed with a single bunk above) and a set of bunk beds, as well as a fully equipped guest kitchen, a guest lounge, a dining area and a sun deck. The hostel is nestled in a secluded valley surrounded by trails that wind through stunning coastal wilderness, and is only seven miles from the heart of Point Reyes Station. Take the day to explore the sights, sounds and food of the area, but save sunset hours for an evening paddle with Point Reyes Outdoors on Tomales Bay.
Discover Tomales Bay in a whole new light with this amazing sunset-night paddle with Point Reyes Outdoors (the PRO’s). Your group will be completely outfitted for your evening paddle and led by amazing guides who will help you search out seasonal bioluminescence and other creatures of the sea. Bioluminescence is a seasonal occurrence (Sept-Nov) that happens when a combination of conditions align. We can see this chemical reaction most often on land in the form of fireflies, and in some mushrooms and worms, but single-celled zooplankton found in the ocean, also known as dinoflagellates, also glow in special conditions. When disturbed by waves, tides, storms or swimming marine life, these microscopic animals produce light, often delighting those lucky enough to see it. As your group paddles through the bay we will have chance to see this phenomenon, as well as seals, jellyfish, bat rays and more.
