Description
Point Reyes National Seashore is happy to partner with our friends from REI, Backpacker Magazine and KIND Healthy Snacks for the ultimate backpacker adventure for two in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act.
One of the best ways to experience Point Reyes National Seashore is to sleep under the stars in one of the park’s four hike or bike-in backcountry campgrounds located in the Phillip Burton Wilderness. Come experience it for yourself with a two-night stay for two in one or more camps courtesy of Point Reyes National Seashore Association. Camps can be reserved online up to nine months in advance and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Located in the southern section of the park, each camp offers potable water and pit toilets, and each site offers a picnic table, food storage box, and charcoal grill. Depending on the site you reserve and your backcountry experience, choose from:
Coast Camp, nestled within a small, protected valley with easy access to the beach and tidepools. This is the most popular camp for families as it can be approached easily from the beach or other trailheads. Easy to moderate 2.2 mile hike or ride from main trailhead.
Glen Camp, a quiet and secluded camp deep within a wooded valley and protected from ocean breezes. Campers can reach this camp from the Bear Valley or the Five Brooks trailheads. No groups, horses, or pack animals are allowed at Glen Camp. Moderate to strenuous 5+ mile hike or ride from main trailhead.
Sky Camp, located on the west side of Mount Wittenberg (the park's highest peak) this camp is perched along the ridgeline at 1,025 feet above sea level. From some vantage points, and in clear weather, it has a sweeping view of Drakes Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Easy to moderate 1.5 uphill hike or ride from main trailhead.
Wildcat Camp, is the most remote camp located on an open meadow bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Depending on how you access this popular camp, you can also visit Bass, Pelican or Crystal Lakes. The campsites are yards from the beach and surf-line, where you can also take a short 2-mile round-trip beach walk to the park’s only major and year-around waterfall, Alamere Falls. Moderate to strenuous 5.5 to 6.7 miles hike or ride over rolling terrain from main trailheads.
Once you arrive to your destination break in your new backpacking gear from our friends at REI, including:
( 1 ) 2-person, 3-season REI Passage II backpacking tent
