Bid on this special art, literature and media package commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act and the Rebels who fought to preserve the Seashore!
This month marks the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, which was signed by President Lyndon Johnson on September 3, 1964 at the Rose Garden signing ceremony. This landmark law established the National Wilderness Preservation System, which paved the way to the 1976 landmark designation of the Phillip Burton Wilderness Area at Point Reyes National Seashore. This 27,000 acre wilderness area is named for former California Congressman Phillip Burton who served in the US House of Representatives and fought for wilderness preservation from 1964 until his untimely death on April 10, 1983.
In commemoration of this special anniversary, one lucky bidder will receive:
A limited, signed edition of the 50th Anniversary Wilderness Act fine art poster by internationally-acclaimed artist Monte Dolack from our friends at Wilderness Watch. Image size: 18" x 16", Paper size: 25" x 30"
The Enduring Wilderness: Protecting Our Natural Heritage through the Wilderness Act by Doug Scott courtesy of Point Reyes Books.
An astute biography of Wallace Stegner conservationist and wilderness champion: Wallace Stegner and the American West, by Philip L. Fradkin courtesy of UC Press.
A Literary Anthology of California Nature Writing: Natural State, a selection of nature writings by various writers hand selected and edited by Steven Gilbar with a forward by David Brower courtesy of UC Press.
The award-winning DVD documentary of Rebels with a Cause, a stunning film narrated by Frances McDormand which spotlights the battle over land that created Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreational Area.
