2012 PINOT NOIR Sol Du Rivière RIVER BENCH VINEYARD     

This is the first release of three Soil Series Selections from some of the Pinot Noir Vineyards we work with. Pinot Noir is a transparent varietal that showcases in perfect years, its site and terrior. Sometimes everything will align perfectly - from the vineyard to the fermenter, and finally to the barrel that was selected. Sol Du Riviere very loosely translates to, "The River Soil".  Which we felt was quite appropriate being that these vines, planted in 1973, are planted in alluvium and river rock with shallow ribbons of clay. We feel this site benefits from slightly  higher sugars, allowing the fruit to be front and center. 33% new French oak, and all destemmed, this wine is modern in style but still showcases classic Santa Maria Valley aromatics of Italian herbs and spice. Very limited
